I just watched the Bette Davis/Miriam Hopkins movie and was immediately reminded of this movie. Is it a remake?

Yes, it is a remake. If you look at the writer you will see that both are penned by John Van Druten, a very successful playwright in the 40s. Both also are Warner Bros. pictures.

I wasn't too crazy about this movie but now that I see Old Acquaintance is coming on in a couple of days on TCM I'm glad I stumbled across this movie. I can't wait to see how the same story is handled in a different era. I'm also glad I saw the newer version first.
