Did Anyone else pre-order this on DVD?

I pre-ordered this one and Prairie Home from Amazon last month and now I have an email from Amazon that this shipment will be delayed. Both movies are scheduled to be in stores Oct. 10th. Has there been a delay in the release date of Reds?

reply

The DVD release has been moved to October 17th because the film is being re-released in a few theaters for one week (in NY and LA) starting Friday. It's also being screened at the NY Film Festival this week.

Barnes and Nobles did not get the memo to not put it out, because they had it out and I bought it... sorry to rub it in. Thats after Borders and Best Buy told me they did not get it in, and did not say they delayed it at the 11th hour.

do you think that this applies to barnes and noble's nationwide?

reply

I don't know, I would say to call or just go in, I went in on a whim, and they had it on there new release display.... of course I wish the others told me it was pushed back, but glad Barnes had it out.. Very good transfer by the way, and was happy to see Nicholson took part in the documentaries, being interviewed seriously about his charicter of Eugine O'neil..

Yeah, I checked the nearest Barnes and Noble, and needless to say I will be watching Reds tonight.

Two years ago I asked Amazon to notify me as to when it would be available. They did about a month ago and I pre-ordered. Last week they said there would be a delay. All that preparation and I could have just blindly staggered (as I often do) into the Best Buy down the street and gotten a copy quicker. Oh well. One more week won't kill me. Or will it? I've been waiting soooo long, Mr. Beatty.

Amazon sent me a message this morning saying it had shipped (17th)!
Interesting, as with the OP, I also pre-ordered A Prarie Home Companion and it is shipping as well!

I pre-ordered it ~a month ago, then got an email from Amazon saying it'd be here ~the 23rd (a few days late) and it was in my P.O. Box yesterday! Lol... Typical Mercury Rx crap.

I'm slightly disappointed that it's in the 16x7 ratio, not the wide-wide screen that I remember, but it's a magnificent epic (and achievement) nonetheless!

As far as I remember it was always a 1.85 aspect ratio, and I have the original VHS copy that I recieved in 1990 and did a side by side comparison with the 1.85 and pan and scan, and they zoomed all the way in on the picture on the VHS, so there are all the things associated with pan and scan movies, artificial pans, cuts where their should not be. But it was a 1.85 film, not 2.35, it was not shot animorphic. Now thats not to say they did not blow the 1.85 up for a 70mm presentation, E.T. was shot 1.85 and that was blown up to 70MM.
