The use of witnesses

I finally got this long awaited DVD and watched it today. It has been a long time since I have seen this movie, and it is still very absorbing. What a beautifully done movie!!! The use of actual witnesses is very clever. When Harry Met Sally copied this idea, but using fictional witnesses. I don't remember if any other non-documentary movie used this format of having witnesses explaining. Does any knows?
Regarding the DVD, I am a bit disappointed that it did not have any commentary tracks. It does has one interesting documentary about making of Reds.

Woody Allen does it in his mock-documentary Zelig. But then I'm not sure if that answers your question.

Both Zelig and When Harry are made after Reds. I wonder if any other movie (important/famous) did it before.
