This came out when I was a kid ...but I've honestly barely heard about it the past 30 years.
I've seen many, many classics that came out around then (and before I was born) on regular TV and cable multiple times. I literally cannot remember ever seeing a commercial or seeing it on TV guide channel or just coming across it while flipping.
Why do you suppose that is?

According to the trivia page, Warren Beatty wouldn't allow it to be "edited for television," not to mention chopped up to make room for commercials and panned and scanned.
Good on Warren.
I cringe when I see edited for television and "to run in the allotted time" at the beginning of any flick. Might as well run it through a blender.
TCM is about your only hope other than DVD.

lol because it's over 3 hours long without commercials!! Audiences today just don't have that long of an attention span.

I saw it on television early this morning. It's never on TV because nobody wants to see it. Warren Beatty is great in the this film, he deserved an Oscar nod. I suppose that Dianne Keaton was fine, but Jack Nicholson and Paul Sorvino had parts tht could have been played by anyone. Other than Beatty, there is not much to see in this film.
