Best movie of the 80's?

It's definitely near the very top of my list.

reply

It is when you put it like that , but i bet if i got a list of "great 80s films" it'd slip down the list quickly ...
hang on .....

I'd probably put these as my top 5 in the 80's:

5. Ghostbusters
4. The Terminator
3. Back to the Future
2. The Road Warrior
1. Platoon and/or Raiders

reply

It was fun. It was up there.

I still liked Back to the Future, The Empire Strikes Back, Diehard and some other films a little more.

It is definitely one of the top films of the decade.

reply

This is THE best adventure film EVER made.
I don't know about best overall in the decade or more, it's difficult to compare different genres.

Die Hard is THE best action film EVER made, for instance.
I'd put Raiders above it as a movie overall, but others might not, it's not objective.
De Gustibus.

reply

Nah. The Indy franchise is the best adventure franchise of all time, no doubt about that one, but Raiders is not the best Indy movie.

That honor goes to The Last Crusade

TLC
Raiders
Temple

.
KOTC

I enjoy Raiders for sure and have seen it multiple times, but Last Crusade is one of those special films that I can watch over and over and over and still always be down to give it another go.

reply

I like them all, except for Crystal Skull. The first three are so good that I can't even rank them.

reply

KOTC?

reply

One of the best movies in the history! No doubt.

reply

Nah, back to the future is loads better.

reply

No. Not even the best Indiana Jones film IMHO.

reply

Not the best from a critical standpoint (still very high) but probably the best film just for a good time.

reply

I like the sequels (even, to some degree, "Kingdom) but they try way too hard. Plus, the humor in them is near constant, which can get annoying after awhile. "Raiders," on the other hand, uses humor sparingly, often subtly, and has an effortless, organic feeling that the others lack. Is it the best film of the '80s? Well, it's certainly one of the giants of silly movies, and that subtle humor, and effortless quality, are large reasons why.

reply

Gotta admit Harrison Ford really becomes Indiana Jones when he puts on that hat.
