Cool sound effect

I've never been able to figure out what this is, but it is a really atmospheric effect. It occurs at 1:50 of this clip:

It sounds like something supernatural is tracking them. A similar effect is even more noticeable during an early scene in Temple of Doom in which Indy, Willie and Short Round are led into the Indian village, which is in ruins.

Does anyone out there know what was used to make this effect?

You mean the sound that kinda resembles an owl?

If i'm not mistaken, it's in Return of the Jedi too.

I guess it does sound a bit like an owl, especially if he was hooting from beyond the grave. At what point does it appear in Return of the Jedi?
