it's foolish to think someone would throw you the whip after you threw them the idol.

what would keep you from trying to catch up with them and taking it back? they would never throw the whip.

reply

Yea that was a plot hole

reply

that is NOT a plot hole

reply

Its getting tiring on here when explaining what a plot hole is. The scene is nonsensical. Thats called a plot hole. Re watch the scene if you can't recall it exactly

reply

not going to argue with you but I believe it isn't a plot hole. Peace!

By the way, are you looking forward to Indy 5?

reply

Looking forward to Indy 500 this weekend. That's about it.

reply

I wasn't aware Indy 5 was a go

reply

yup, supposed to shoot this summer

reply

Someone not acting the way you think they should isn’t a plot hole.

reply

Well it made for an awesome scene so I don't care.

reply

There was no other choice really.

I don't think Indy had a choice, he was in extreme danger it's easy to see he's also desperate and not thinking clearly. Indy's a bad-ass but this scene shows how human he truly is.

Well said.

Satipo was overcome with the sight of the golden idol, take a look at his face when Indy is trying to take the idol from its resting place, he's clearly almost in a trance.

So when Satipo suddenly finds himself holding the item he most covets (and the reason they went into such a dangerous place to begin with) and his partner is in a fix, he sees an opportunity to claim the idol for himself and claim that his partner was killed in a trap. But Satipo is the one who ends up killed in a trap. Such sweet irony.

In the past a lot of people used to do business just with a handshake.
In the 1930s (when the movie takes place) people were more trusting of each other.
Your word meant something.

In that situation Indy probably thought, I'll give him what he wants and he'll let me live,
we have spent some time together, the guy doesn't want to kill me, he just wants the treasure.

Maybe they'll meet again in the future... just like when Indy exits and meets Belloq and the Hovitos...
he knew Belloq and obviously had some history with.

As others have also mentioned... he was also stuck in a 'no other option' scenario.

I have no issue with this.
