Evelyn Nesbit?

I am familiar with the story of Harry Thaw killing Stanford White over Evelyn Nesbit. Somehow I just pictured her as a woman with more class than the way Elizabeth McGovern portrayed her. I don't know how else to put it but young, cheap and stupid and. I've seen the pretty and sweet Elizabeth in many other roles where she was shy and demure. Was the real Evelyn Nesbit so common?

Being only 22 when the murder occurred, Evelyn Nesbit was probably a combination of dimwit and street smart when it came to matching her husband, nasty mother-in-law and all of the old men trying to find their way into her bed. I like how McGovern plays the innocent dumbbell, but on occasion, there's obviously calculating little movements going on in her head. I prefer Mary Steenburgen as "mother" (her Golden Globe nominated role), but Elizabeth got the Oscar nomination. She later made the comment, "Dream of Ragtime", on "Downton Abbey", which was a nice little salute, and even then, there's an innocence about her that's captivating. The picture of Evelyn in this link does slightly resemble Elizabeth to an extent.
