Tunnels

Just curious about what kind of structure/purpose the tunnels are where Debbie and Sue drink the tequilla before the party?
Thanks,
Brendan

I also wondered why they were shown there ... Didn't make much sense suddenly seeing them appear there, did it?

Interesting reply, Forms.
Thanks.

Brendan brought up a great OP, because I also noticed how odd it was to see "Debbie" and "Sue" just suddenly walking the length of some abandoned tunnel in that scene just before they went to the pool party and got wicked-drunk, lol.

It looked liked an old suburban reservoir to me. Similar to the Paddington Reservoir in Sydney.

OK toxiemite, Why do you think the two girls were just suddenly shown walking down in those tunnel-like Thingies if they were on their way to a party? In other words, wouldn't they be walking more above-ground, if they were going to a pool party, in a home (which they were!)?

I may be wrong, but the tunnel the girls are in looks like it is part of the old brickworks (now Sydney Park). As to why they're inside the tunnel instead of walking out in the open... I assume it's because they were drinking and didn't want to do it too obviously in case they got caught. I remember my teenage years being full of secret spots like that.

The real tunnels are still there. I saw them on tonight's "Australian Story", a special on Puberty Blues, on the ABC. They didn't say where they were though - obviously to keep the rubbernecks away. lol.

they are a landmark of inner Sydney, down at the end of King st Newtown
