Really disappointed...

I had such high hopes for The Prowler and this was my first time watching it, too, but aside from some great effects here and there, it was so "been there, done that", I just found myself sitting there waiting for it to be over with, with absolutely no scare factor whatsoever! I love the Slasher genre but aside from the get up, this had nothing new to offer. ANyone else feel the same way?

5 out of 10...

I dont think its really fair to call this movie "by the numbers/been there done that", when it came out in 1981, when the slasher genre was just getting going. Now, if it came out today in 2014, I could totally see that, but then again, I really liked this movie, so I may be a bit biased ;)

You know, I actually thought this came out mid 80s so I would have to agree with you. It's not the films fault I waited 33 years to watch it hahaha! I think I also set my expectations to high for it, which can kill alot of movies, I've always heard Savini felt this was his best work but Im a die hard maniac fan and would have to disagree...

The effects are great, but I just never cared for this one. I like almost every single slasher that came out in the 80's too. I think the Scooby Doo mystery where the two leads look for clues really slows the pacing of the film down, and the killer only shows up like 3 times to bump anyone off, and one time is at the start of the film. They should've spread the bodycount out a bit more and not done 2 at a time in a span of a couple minutes each because alot of the film seems like (uninteresting) filler. The characters are kind've boring too.

You summed it up perfectly. I think alot of the characters just werent interesting at all, and it does have alot of filler...I wish I could have liked it, but it just doesn't have anything else going for it(IMO) when there is a plethora of 80s slashers that do...

Part of the problem is that you don't understand it--this is not a movie, but rather a porn-video for filler-fetishists. Now that you know, you may not like it but at least you can accept it for what it is.

I finally watched this film for the first time ever and I agree with you. Nope, this not some lost gem more folks need to check out asap.

i agree this film was HORRIBLE! i had such high hopes for it cause it looked like a good one but it was simply awful. not the worst one i've ever seen to be fair. but a horrible film either way.

It's so slow! There's almost zero tension. The kills are gory and inventive for their time, but they just kinda happen and then it's more slow exposition. The Prowler himself looks pretty cool, but this movie had me nodding off.
