This movie was boring!

I fell asleep twice. It was like alot of drawn out "searching scenes" or "killer's POV scenes". The suspense was way too drawn out. Great gore, though, but I'm bummed I blind bought it. :(

3/10

It all seems so...absurd. So fantastic!

reply

This is a great film of the genre, gore AND suspense.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

reply

No, sorry, it doesn't have suspense. Maybe to you, but not to me. That's why people are different, mmk?

And what's the point of replying with "you don't know what you're talking about"? Obviously I know what I'm talking about, because I posted MY opinion, not movie facts or something. F@cking rude ass idiot!

I thought so too! It does have a few nice moments, though. They should have condensed it down into a 30 minute short, then it would have been awesome!

reply

100% Agreed.

A lot of scenes where NOTHING HAPPENED just intercut with POV shots or quick cuts of the killer turning his head. The long drawn out scenes of her changing in the room, the graveyard search, the jail, the hotel clerk, and the other couple in the basement all went nowhere and had nothing to do with anything.

Good gore, great atmospheric music, but a big disappointment overall.

reply

Exactly. For a good portion of the film, nothing happens. At all. Those scenes you mentioned were absolutely excruciating to sit through.

I found it very suspenseful, and it's one of my favourite 80's slashers. Terror Train, on the other hand, I never found particularly scary... The Prowler, on the other hand, has two chase scenes, one of which is sustained for an admirable length. Also, it manages two or three good shocks - the final nod to Carrie is okay, but the prowler makes a sudden appearance twice during the extended chase that startled me quite a bit.

You could do a lot worse on a blind buy...

reply

I was bored out of my mind, I figured the killer out within two seconds, and the actors were annoying. It did have great kill scenes though.

I agree, this movie just lacked suspense for me. Those scenes really dragged.

What this film needed was some Crispin Glover, and the main chick should have gone nude, oh yes.

The movie was so-so I guess. I loved the killing scenes and some the chase scenes but some did play out too long. My main problem with the film is that is happended (not really sure) perhaps all in one day and night. There was never any time to actuall get to know the characters to even care if they were killed. Now Girls Nite Out and the Dorm That Dripped Blood are movies of the same era not to be missed. I also disagree with the previous post about this movie being compared to My Bloody Valentine. I am a big fam of MBV and this surely falls behind it.

reply

I agree with the OP. I really wanted to like this movie and to some extent, I do. But all those time wasting scenes were ridiculous.

reply

even the suspense and action scenes were boring everything was so cliche and obvious, i can not believe that i saw the hole movie 4/10

reply

its not really fare to condemn it for being cliche. this came out in 80/81 so the horror/slasher movies that came out around this time created what we now consider cliches. it was more or less original at the time you know?

but yeah the movie was definately boring and whats up with the dude's eye turning white when stabbed through the head? my guess is that they are implying the attack caused them to roll back but we just see a sudden cut making it seem like they suddenly change white. if the point was them rolling back, they should have had a closeup of the dummy head and showed them roll back. but if i'm wrong then i have no clue why they turn white.

reply

well yes, you are right i didn't thought about that, a good point thanks

Dressed to Kill: 7.5/10

It was one of the earlier slasher films yet it still managed to rip off Halloween, Carrie, and Friday the 13th. There was little originality here and the plot made no sense. What on earth was that scene with the hotel clerk other than to waste minutes of time?

Farley Granger was the only person who could have been the killer since nobody else was old enough and not on screen. Some mysterious stabber was mentioned early on but that wasn't enough to fool anybody.

How did Major Chatham get upstairs to stare at the chicks without a stair lift? Why did we never see him again after he grabbed the woman?

What sort of cop left the woman on her own most of the time and kept her with him while trying to track down a killer?

Good death scenes but the rest was rubbish.

*spoilers*

Yep this movie had severe pacing issues and sub plots that lead absolutely NOWHERE. The kid in the jail, the couple in the basement, the old pervert....never heard from again. I was hoping he'd kill the old bastard.

The hotel clerk scene I can understand because it was an extremely flimsy attempt to make the audience the believe that the sheriff was really on a fishing trip and not on campus slashing people. But again, like someone mentioned before it really is painfully obvious he was the one, so I don't know why they even bothered. I think overall there is like literally 20 minutes of pointless wandering around and dead end sub plots.

WHO IS HECTOR MOLINA...AND WHY DO THEY KEEP SENDING ME HIS JUNK MAIL?!

remember something people this movie is a low budget exploitation/slasher film and of course the acting is just OK butt the violence and suspense was there and yea sure its slow at times i think its a classic tho!

I'm not a lady I'm an anthropologist

reply

I thought the hotel clerk scene was a metaphor for what this movie was doing to the audience.

reply

Although I enjoyed the movie, I do have to admit that the pace was dreadful. The story seemed to stall multiple times throughout. The entire mid-section was a chore to get through.

Absolutely. Dreadful pacing for sure. Since posting this though I've actually come to enjoy the film alot more than I did at first. My rating is 8/10 now.

It's a sad thing that your adventures have ended here

reply

Cool to see you've come around a bit. It's not a perfect film, but it certainly has its redeeming qualities that put it on par with the cream of the early '80s slasher crop.

While I liked this movie, it was dead boring at times. The two sequences that stick out for me was the first time they went through the Major's house (soooo slow and drawnout), and the visit to the graveyard (he walks around with NOTHING happening for five minutes).

reply

I just watched this for the first time last night and I have to agree. VERY boring. The gore is great, sure, but the pacing of the film - to me - was terrible.

It kinda surprises me because I think Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is 10x better and it's by the same director and was done only what?... 3 years later?

Wait a minute... who am I here?
