Could it be that it was Joss main target to get himself killed?

Could it be that Joss has closed his relation with life as much so that he wanted to get killed? All his actions in France during this movie obviously lead to this conclusion. Especially the ending. It was clear that they cant let him escape after he killed Njala.

I presume that they years at the prison camp and the betrayal of all of his friends destroyed him psychically.
