Calm Down Everyone

The young guy who was in this picture was 17 years old when he made this movie. He was totally legal. He just didn't look that old. You all remember him. He played Buzz on Mama's Family. He even look young on that show and he was in his 20's playing a teenager.

reply

That's not true. He was not yet 17 when the movie was released, not that it matters. He was born in December of 1964 and the release was in August 1981.

reply

and it was copyright in 1980, so he was most certainly 15 when it was filmed.

Did the film maker get into trouble for having an older woman having sex with a minor? I cant believe they got away with this. I know they didnt really have sex but still. I doubt they could do this now.

reply

Um, they didn't actually have sex. IT IS A MOVIE.

Sheesh.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

terrynd-2, no legal troubles for the film maker. It's not illegal for a minor to simulate having sex in a movie, but you're right that they probably couldn't do this movie today. American society has gotten much more sensitive to anything to do with minors and nudity/sexuality on screen than it was in the early 80s.

Lukas Haas was 15 when he made Rambling Rose with Laura Dern in 1991.

Well, you know, we can't blame JoeLoebner too much for being an idiot. The pedophilia hysteria has gotten so out of hand, and the immorality of involving the topic of sex with any teen-ager under 18 has been so drummed into us, that naturally feeble-minded Americans who can't think for themselves would completely disregard the reality of an inexperienced teen-aged boy being the luckiest boy on earth, for having sex with a woman over 18. That is just a fact of life, in spite of how the dum-dums out there think a 15 or 16 year old teen-aged boy (and I stress "boy," because female counterparts are more easily regarded as victims; although to be fair, the same should apply to them, too) would have no will of his own. (As if a 15-16-year-old's maturity level would be the same as that of an innocent 5 or 6-year-old. For those who think that way, have you forgotten your mental capacity when you were 15 or 16? Were you really that stupid back then?)

(I'm not condoning those over 18 having sex with those under 18; that is the law, and it must be respected. Beyond the legal aspect, it is the responsibility of every adult to protect especially pre-teens. But come on; for women having sex with a teen-aged boy, different rules apply.)

Morality is determined by societal influences. (Over a century ago, for example, 14-year-old child brides were not an anomaly in certain regions of the USA.) The society of 1981 was far more level-headed, as far as this now hot-button topic.

When all is said and done, the one who fumed about Sylvia Kristel and the producers needing to go to jail for daring to raise the possibility of this "evil" idea is still, yes, an idiot.

You tell 'em Joe!

And while they're at it, they need to arrest that menace to society, Anthony Hopkins! He portrayed the vile Hannibal Lecter! He actually ATE PEOPLE!! What a SICKO!!!

Lock him up and throw away the key!!!

Justice!!! JOE AND I DEMAND JUSTICE!!!!

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey look, at the time I was jealous of the kid having a ton of raging hormones myself, but 17 is not legal. It is in fact, quite illegal.

Actually, as I understand it, in about 15 states the age of consent is 16. I am not saying that is good or bad, I am just saying that is the law. This movie was filmed in Arizona and apparently the age of consent there was and is 18 but it is not in all states.

The character is 15 having sex with a woman. The story would be highly controversial if it were made today and get plenty of protesters.
