In fact, television used to show this movie edited. However, no traditional network, cable network, or even a local television station will play it any more. The last time I saw it aired was back in the early 1990's--I think around 1992. In any case, you are right (despite your deplorable spelling and typing).
This movie plays into a fantasy many young teenage boys have during their early adolescent angst.
Unfortunately, the fantasy is taken away by a slew of teachers who have absolutely no common sense nor moral decency. Frankly, those women have abused their power and as a man, I find it apalling. Yeah, if I was 15 and full of hormones, I would likely give in. But as I get older, it seems like such women have questionable judgment and no sense of right or wrong.
What really makes me mad about this is that if a male teacher had an affair with a female student, the man would end up in jail. But that is not happening with most of these female teachers.
Another concern I have is the media is now looking for such stories. Like many other problems, I don't think it is any worse than what it was back in the 1970's or even the 1950's. Back then, if such a thing happened, it was not reported or even squelched by the media because back then, they did not want to "give anyone any ideas." But now, with them looking for such stories to boost ratings, it is much easier to find them.

Summer of '42 has a scene where a recently widowed hot female has sex with a 15 year-old, and does that get shown on t.v.? Heck yeah.

Yeah, I just watched it last night. It did bring me back to when I was a youngin' as I remember seeing it at about 12 years old. Back then it was like, WOW boobs on TV. I hope my parents don't catch me watching this. It brought me back to a time that I was still innocent and sneaky and for that I am glad. I didn't think about the acting or the storyline holes or any of that . It was more of a trip down memory lane into my feelings as a kid. That was 20 something years ago and it was good to remember how I thought and felt back then. I had this strange feeling again of not wanting to get caught watching it, even though my wife was asleep in bed next to me and I am a grown man now, I wouldn't have gotten in trouble for it. But it did bring back those memories. Hey, at least I still have them.

Juuuuust watched it, it's still playing now, HAD to see other people's opinions, this movie is insane... Could NEVER be made these days. And some obvious cuts were made, scenes with the both in the bed. But still shocking for these days.

reply

it just aired on showtime, and i was caught off guard and shocked lol takes a lot to do that for me these days.

Its on FLIXe now. I seen this several times in less than a year.

Yeah I came across this on Flix several times in the last 2 months. It brought back memories when I saw it in the theatres. Interesting how Eric Browns' career has changed from 1981. I think he did a great job of acting in the movie as did Sylvia Krystel. Wish they had web sites that one could send their kudos to, to let them know.

reply

Yep, watching it now on Showtime.

Blah, blah, blah. . . Just a movie, and not even a very god one at that. Funny at times, but boring and just plain stupid.

This movie couldn't be made today, because people take things the wrong way. . . Fact of the matter is, there are TONS of this type of relationship in REALITY, and people are afraid to face reality.

Lolita was very much the same type of fantasy, just with an older man and a young girl. The movie Kids was also a scary rendition of young males living out their adolescent dreams. Harold and Maude also dealt with a relationship between a very young man and an old woman. . . This subject is hardly new, and hardly controversial. Is the reality of this behavior deplorable? Certainly it is, but if this movie were made today, and people got up in arms about it, then it would just go to prove how absolutely ridiculous and moronic society is. In the end, people need to realize that its just a stupid movie, and that they certainly don't have to watch it if they choose not to. The problem is that there are people out there who want to be able to choose what everyone else in the world can or cannot choose. Get over it.

Scott-sw, unless you find deplorable and outright disgusting the thought of two same-aged, consenting adolescents having sex as well, I think your judgement bears more than just a bit of a double-standard edge.
You can accept and respect a 15-year-old decision to have sex with another teen but can not accept his choice to do so with an adult woman? You said you would have been more than happy to oblige had the opportunity turned up back then (as most of my schoolmates did and hoped for back when I was that young) so, I honestly can not see how that personal decision may be affected by the choice of partner. Would the boy's pleasure be pure and honest with a girl but filthy and sinful with a woman? I disagree.

Sadly, you're right. If this film was actually made today, it would be done as some grimly serious Lifetime network made-for-TV drama about a wicked adult corrupting an innocent minor. It certainly wouldn't be played for blithely lowbrow humor, that's for sure.

It probably couldn't be made in the United Sates today, as could not "Lord of the Flies" (1963) because of the young-boys-nudity factor, not because of the kids-murdering-kids factor.

Americans don't like to admit that other countries have more liberty about these things today than we do.

Jon_Death:

"...a teenage girl having sex with a grown man is quite the common occurrence."

I don't know about common, but the standards appear to be fickle.
As a famous example, Rock and Roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis has a checkered track record for marriages, including a 13 year old, first-cousin bride. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Lee_Lewis#Family

Future congressman Sonny Bono, and the-one-and-only Cher, began their relationship when she was 16 and he 27. I'm not saying they crossed the line at the time, but that simple relationship today would probably earn him universal "pervert" condemnation, and her an automatic "victim" status.

It's like underage nudity, which was accepted in moviemaking in the past. Now, I believe the jurisprudence, or law, is that: the movies and art photos already existing from a period they were allowed to be made in, can be displayed today, but you can't make them like that anymore. Correct me if I'm wrong.

potential spoiler alert

There is nothing sinister about Nicole. She's being coerced by Lester into the extortion plot because of her undocumented status. But she feels badly about the way Philly has been used and tries to right the wrong. I'm more offended by the ridiculous way the movie plays out after the extortion plot twist than the affair between Philly and Nicole.

That said, this country has become completely intolerant of any kind of sex between teenage minors and adults. Even if it is consensual and not involving an adult in a position of authority and trust. That scenario doesn't apply to "Private Lessons", since it is the adult who is the employee, an undocumented immigrant, and the teenager is the son of a millionaire, who is in reality the boss. If this got remade it would have to be an independent production because I doubt any major studio would touch it today.
