police corruption

So this what police was like back in the seventies?

Basically they could do anything to anyone, weren't likely to get caught unless a multi-million decade long intelligence work was done.

How are they today? Has anything changed?

I doubt it

Police CAN do or NOT do anything they want

It's the power of being a cop

especially in a big city

Not every cop can rise to say an officers level, or get into plain cloths

Where does it start, with the free coffee at a convenience store? Cut a merchant some slack on parking, get a free luuch a couple times a week,

You make 20,000 a year and someone slips you 500 to look the other way

I think corruption still exist in lager cities as well as small towns. I'm sure there are still payoffs, cover ups.

It would seem police corruption and cop violence have always been there (just read Chandler's novels from the 1940's-1950's) and, as can be judged by some recent news items, are also alive and well today.

Well, since you seem to judge categories of people based on movies you see that depict them, just wait for the next cop movie to come out so you can evaluate how they are now.
