I don't think Lawrence was this much of a raging a-hole

I don't get the impression that DH Lawrence acted anything like this in reality. He may have been "passionate" and easily frustrated by society, prone to outbursts on occasion, but this portrayal feels shallow and just makes him seem completely irrational and nasty, on a constant basis. I don't think it does the complexity of the man justice. Were Bert and Frieda really just plain jerks? I sense DH was too much sensitive to be set on the constant obnoxious rage-mode I see in this film.

If you read some of the things he wrote about the lower classes in real life you will find he was *much* nastier.

Hm, it's one thing to voice opinions and be nasty about it, (bear in mind he was living in far different times)... but I just don't feel like the man was a such a 24-hour raging stress case to the degree dramatized in this film. This portrayal shows no moments of calm, no sense of beauty and peacefulness that I get from his writing. I don't think a guy this ANGRY ALL the time would have such insight into the human heart and mind without any sense of... inner peace I guess. What do I know.

Just saw the film and he didn't seem that bad. There were a few outbursts. Naturally those are the parts you'll show in a film because just looking at a person reading or scribbling is sort of boring.
