Boring ....

Watching it right now, about an hour into it and I am falling asleep. The actors are great but the movie itself is totally boring.

Agree. I recently rewatched it after many years and couldn't believe how boring and uninteresting it was for the most part.

This is not my signature. This is IMDb's automatic translation of my signature.

Yup. Just watched it then. Starts interesting enough. Then just gets boring really fast, I ended up just browsing the web for the rest of the film.

Never seen it, is it a legit sequel to Chinatown? Thanks for pointing it out btw.

I can't second you. Nicholson is lousy in this, a rare occasion. He's good at playing himself, perfect. But the various roles and emotions needed here are alas beyond his reach.
The film is not boring, it is lousy as well. No clear stream, one too many twists and twiddles, an endless drag until the murder is committed, a lot of hassle until the murderer is freed for the first time, and so it drags along. One could as well have the idea that neither script nor director had an initial clue what they wanted to do, but a remake of an infinitely better first version.

While Cora is convincing, the movie leaves me clueless why she would fall for Nicholson. Not for the Nicholson of other movies, but the Nicholson of this movie. He has nothing to offer her what she couldn't get from hundreds of others.

The best cinematography are the parts travelling through the countryside in old cars. Otherwise it is as indecisive as the rest: Steamy sex scenes, dark pub scenes, drunken scenes, more rather dark celebration scenes, some brutality, scenes of corrupt lawyers, and plenty of love and hate sprinkled in between.

No, boring isn't the right term. Tiring. Seldom do I check the time during a movie to see when the whole lot will come to an end. Here I did a number of times.

The film leads to nowhere. They both are arrested and then let free. What's the point in that?
