Well the ending was horrible. But if you watch that scene, the worst thing about it is Jessica Lange is breathing in and out the whole time. She's dead, but you can see her chest going up and down. Maybe that's not a big deal to some, but that shot is so long that it's impossible not to notice it.

also she's moving her hand. Sure she's dead, or as good as. She hit her head on a rock and she lost the baby too and Frank cries real tears. It was a real tragedy.
The ending was fantastic in the most important way, that the filmmaker doesn't spoonfeed you what comes next: the horrible irony that after everything they did, it was a kiss that killed Cora and sent Frank to the gallows.

He was moving her hand a lot. It did seem like she was moving her own hand but the more I looked, it appeared that HE was moving her hand.

Try yourself with your partner, sure without running her over before, lay down on the floor and do what Nicholson does to the hand of Cora. The arm won't budge. Make that an acting mistake, she knew what Nicholson was supposed to do, and helped him by moving her own arm instead of completely relaxing it. Remember, she was dead for a few seconds and not yet stiff.

There were just too many car crashes in this movie to make it believable. As soon as they started in on that long drawn out kiss, I knew what would happen next.
