Did anyone not like this movie?

I saw this on IFC and I was so pumped to see it since I saw his other films (Female Trouble, Serial Mom, Hairspray, and Pink Flamingos) and I loved all of them. So I thought it would be a cool classic Waters movie. However the movie I expected didn't show up instead I was treated to in my opinion Waters worst movie that the only laughing I did was in Edith Massey's part which was absolutely hilarious.

I guess my problem was most of the movie felt so depressing and I didn't get at what part I was suspose to be laughing was it when Francine's husband was screwing Mink Stole or when she became an alcholic. I know he trying to make fun of over melodramatic but to me it didn't come off that well. There is none of the shock in older movies or making fun of society in general in his newer movies. Truthfully the movie was just boring.

P.S. What was with all of Francine's sniffing it just looked really strange and made her come off as being well kind of a freak when I thought you were suspose to symphaize with her.

I guess I could give it a another shot but to me it just wasn't shocking at all and i felt me failed to get his point across about social commentary of the domestic home I thought Desperate Living was much better at this.

pinkhaa478: Do you really need to be "shocked" to enjoy a movie? "Polyester" is fun and certainly has its "charms" in all the right places! Damn...Just sit down and enjoy the flick! You can be "shocked" another day when you watch "Make Them Die Slowly," right?

I agree that the sniffing looked totally wacky! But worth it for the excitement of waiting to scratch and sniff!! I must admit, I liked the characters more than the story but still found it an enjoyable film.

John Waters comments on the sniffing in the dvds commentary saying ti's something like how good smells can make you feel comferted so he just really exaggerated it for the movie lol considering it's time though, it is quite shocking considering you have what is essentialy two men kissing int it.

Knickers, Knackers, Knockers

I must say I found this movie pretty unfunny, very mean, not that interesting and filled with completely unsympathetic characters (except for Edith Massey, who was charming). I did not enjoy this one at all.
