I saw this movie about 20 years ago with my cousin. I remember at the end he's going to be executed in the electric chair and then gets bubblegum as his last wish. His enemies, whose names I forgot, put red flowers in front of him but he gives them to a priest. Then he blows this huge bubble and winds up floating off with Ernest Borgnine -- "It smells like... chewing gum".

If I'm not mistaken Ernest Borgnine also is the one who gives away the secret that the color red takes away his powers. I also remember one scene where the bad guy woman is wearing a red dress in front of the cop.

Anyway, I forgot all about this movie and I'm surprised I'm not the only one to still remember it.

reply

I'm sure that you're way less alone than you think on your positive opinion of this movie. It has been forgotten because it was never released to video or dvd properly.

reply

Actually the movie has been released on DVD throughout Europe but not in the US. That point withstanding Anchor Bay who is known for top notch DVD releases had bought the rights to Super Fuzz and would be releasing a special edition but they got caught in some legal rights dispute and wont release it until the dispute is resolved. If not for the rights dispute you would have a Special Edition Super Fuzz from Anchor Bay on the shelves of stores everywhere. Super Fuzz has not been forgotten its in a rights dispute. Thats why it hasnt been released

reply

Like I said, it hasn't been released to video or dvd properly. A release in the states is the most significant release. Who cares about disputes between dvd manufacterers. This is why it's been forgotten.

reply

The reason Super Fuzz hasnt been released in the US is not because it has been forgotten but because there is a legal dispute surrounding the release. There is a big difference in a movie not being released because it is a forgotten movie verses one that is being held back over legal disputes. Those are 2 very different things. Its kind of the same situation as Grease where back in 1998 Paramount announced the DVD but legal battles kept the movie from being released until Sept 2002 nearly four years later. Legal disputes dont mean movies are forgotten. Also your claim that a movie has to be released in the states to be significant and proper is incorrect. Many DVDs released in other parts of the world have much better special features and are much more complete than US releases and may contain things that were taken out of US releases. The European version of Eyes Wide Shut comes to mind right off the bat but there are many many others if you wanted to do a little research. As far as Anchor Bay goes, they are a distribution company. Distribution companies are the ones that are actually responsible for putting the DVD out. When DVDs are released they are released through distribution companies. That is just how the whole process works. For Example Disney, Miramax Films, Dimension Films, Hollywood Pictures, Touchstone Pictures all release their DVDs through their own distributor Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Sometimes major studios will act as a distributor for other studio's such as in the case with Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox. Lucasfilm produces such films as Star Wars but the movie is actually released through 20th Century Fox who is the distributor. It is a very big deal if there is a legal dispute of who owns the copyright to release a particular film because if the issue is not resolved the movie doesnt get released as in the case of Super Fuzz.

I loved this movie too! It used to come on HBO when I was a kid and I watched it every time I saw it was on. Every time I would see "Super Dave" in the TV listings I would be reminded of this movie (beacause of the title similarity) and disappoined that it is never on TV. I haven't seen it in years. I never thought to look for it on video because I assumed it was some obscure film that wouldn't bother to be released on video. (Until e-Bay I would never expect I could find an obscure title anyway even if it was on video.) I love this movie! As soon as I learned it was on video then I went to e-Bay to look for a copy :o)

yeah, i bought this back in 1999 on Amazon, this was one of the ultimate movies for a kid back in the 80's. i can remember asking people if they ever seen it when i was in 2nd grade back in '84 and no1 know what it was. if it wasn't for the NET i woulda never seen it. the VHS is horrible(too dark) but i loved hearing the music,..friggin' great!!

Thank God I am not alone. I saw this three times in the theatre and can still recite parts of it. (probably misquotes now)

I first thought that it was a totally weird dream i had as a child, but then realized it was a movie i had seen as a young child with my dad. I remember seeing it when i was about 5, back in the early 80s (82-83) and loved it. I especially remember the part with the huge bubble (chewing gum)and laughing at that part. Like a few of you too, we used to pretend to lose our "powers" whenever we saw the color red!! Great to see that others have the same memories as I do!! I would really love to see the movie again, just to refresh my memory!!

nice stand by me quote by the way.....

Anyway, this movie has the same kind of feeling for me as it appears it does for all of you, I must have seen this around 83-85... I'm 27 now, so it seems that most of you are at least close to my age... I too thought that it might have been some weird dream I had when I was a kid, but I've always remembered the title and truthfully the only scene I can recall is where Speed seems to be mixing something in a large bowl, but when the cabinet closes you can see that he's doing it all with his mind while (possibly?) reading a book or something, then he sees red and everything drops... still, I am planning on finding this somewhere as it is about time for my son to see it... glad to know I'm not alone!!

Memories.......

Man, I think of Super Fuzz, I remember my elementary school days back in the early 80`s when "real" cartoons came on Saturday mornings and real movies came on. Feel sorry for the kids today, but like somebody said in one of the posts, I too plan on showing this and alot of other stuff that I grew up watching to my kids.

Anyway, My fav part in Super Fuzz was when he was running in the middle of the street on high speed after the hoodlums and when he broke out of the eletric chair and dove off the building. SUPAH SUPAHH

Amazing, but I was just having a conversation with a friend who had seen this movie too (a rare thing it seems)- and I too noted how I've felt for years that it must've been a dream or something as a kid since I'd never heard anyone mention it.

Watched it for the first time today and it was one of the funniest Terence Hill Films i have ever seen

Saw it for the first time today. Good movie. 7/10

Great movie. 10/10

There are only a handful of movies in my life that entertain throughout the whole film and this one does. The music is second to none, the characters are all great. Terence Hill was born to play this part as was Ernest Borgnine. I also love the police captain. The ending where they go thru the Earth and end up in China is a classic.

Finally got to watch it again after 26 years! Loved it as a kid. Forgot all about it until I accidently came across it again recently.

Obviously not as good as I remember it - what film is from when you were a kid -but still fun to watch.
