Bad DVD?

All the credits are at the beginning of the movie, like a lot of old movies. There were no end credits even in the theatrical verison. The DVD finishes as the movie does.

The quality, while not great is slightly better than the VHS version, but this is clearly not remastered properly to take advatntage of the DVD format. Perhaps they didn't anticipate it being a big seller, so they didn't bother cleaning up the print.

As for the missing scenes... it's been a long time since I've seen the film, but I personally don't recall any scenes missing.

I can't believe people remember this movie. When I was a kid, it was on HBO all the time and it's one of my earliest memories. I need to order it from Amazon myself....

My brother bought this DVD from Overstock.com (and it looked just like the one pictured on Amazon.com). It was a bootleg. I never watched it before he sent it back, but he said the picture and sound were like a bad VHS copy. I did look at the unopened package, and it looked quite questionable to me.

I also did a wee bit of research on Jef Films. It seems that they are a bootleg manufacturer, which explains why the DVD looks like a VHS bootleg. The worst thing about this, with the bootleg out there fooling the idiots who say, "This DVD is crap, but I'm happy enough that it is on DVD," there will probably never be a strong enough demand for a proper DVD release.

The one on Amazon is the same one being sold all over eBay. It's an unlicenced full-frame VHS port put out by Jef Films. The ones on eBay are either the same exact thing, or bootlegs made from them. What's sad is the some day Jef Films will end up becoming a legit company - much in the manner that Brentwood VCI is now a company paying licencing fees and royalties by releasing legitimate material after years of building a financial base by violating any number of copyrights with their "public domain" releases of films that were simply "old" or "foreign" but which were not actually in the public domain. People who buy this American DVD of Superfuzz, as well as other films from the company, are in effect helping Jef Films go legit. Sure, by then they'll probably have some nice rarities and eurocult stuff in their catalog via legal means, but it's a damn shame that they'll do it by releasing unmitigated junk like the Super Fuzz disc.

Just because it's on Amazon in no way makes it legitimate.

Stick to the Italian DVD mentioned here and in other threads. I just watched it again this past weekend (yes, I was a Super Fuzz geek when I was 11!) and it's a stunning transfer with FOUR decent soundtrack options and extras!

Now if only some company like Anchor Bay or Blue Underground would licence the rights from the Italian company, ALL Super Fuzz fans could see what they've been missing by buying Jef Films' atrocity...
