Is this a sequel or not

I heard from websites on line that it isn't a sequel is this true?

reply

Yes it's a sequel. Both films are produced by Roger Corman, this references the events of the first film, and yes this is titled Piranha Part Two.

reply

This isn't produced by Corman but one of the foreign investors on the first Piranha (Chako van Leuwen).

So Corman wasn't a silent partner?

Not to my knowledge.

What part of the movie references the first film? Because I didn't notice any connection at all.

reply

I can only remember a scene where Anne and Tyler are talking, they bring it up. Maybe the scene when she found out he was involved. Haven't watched this in a while.

"What part of the movie references the first film?"

When they are at Annie's suite looking at the projections of the photos that she has taken, she mentions an incident involving mutated fish that happened a couple years back.

No it isnt it doesnt follow the story read imdb on p2 that explaines it in the Q&A

IS THAT AN INSULT ,, ARE YOU INSULTING ME. Darrell--- U TURN

Well, the FAQ is not correct.. A lot of sequels don't have any real connection to previous versions.. In P2 there is definitly a specific reference to the pirahna movie of dante during a conversation..
The specific reference makes it a sequel, as well as the intention of why the fish where created by the militairy..

I'm like 50 years too late responding to this discussion, but yes, the FAQ is wrong. No, the movie is not a direct continuation of the Joe Dante film, but the dialogue between Annie and Tyler while looking at the morgue photos is absolutely a reference to the original PIRANHA. And the revelation that Tyler helped to engineer these creatures more or less confirms that he was part of the same government experiment from the first movie.

Also, for some reason the FAQ states that the killer fish aren't actually piranha, but grunion-flying fish hybrids. That's also a little off, as the movie makes it clear that while they have DNA from flying fish and grunion species, they are also part piranha as well. The movie is called PIRANHA II, after all. Wow, I can't believe I'm talking about this.

I just watched both tonight and in the first movie, there's a mischievious kid by the name of Kimbrough but I can't remember if they actually show the kid. Paul Bartel(the camp counselor)says the name a couple of times.

When room service is bringing breakfast the waiter says, "These are for Mrs. Kimbrough" or something like that which made me think that this was a continuation of just the Kimbrough family. Maybe they had left the area after the children were attacked after the first movie.

Last night (7-23-16) I watched both again and noticed that the guy who hires Chris has the last name of Dumont (Paul Bartel's character name in the original) and Ann knew about the events of the first movie, so I think this is connected to the first, if not just by name only.
