Touring Companies?

I was wondering who people who have seen touring companies of this show, who was playing the leads when you saw it? When I first saw it on tour, Barry Williams of BRADY BUNCH fame played Pippin, the then unknown Betty Buckley played Catherine and Irving Allen Lee, who played Calvin Stoner on THE EDGE OF NIGHT, played the Leading Player. Williams was surprisingly good as Pippin and Buckely, needless to say was amazing. I'd love to hear anyone else's recollection of seeing this show somewhere other than Broadway.

I saw it on Broadway after most of the original cast left.

I saw Samuel Wright ("Sebastian the Crab" in "The Little Mermaid") play the Leading Player.

...the then unknown Betty Buckley played Catherine.....

Actually, she wasn't quite unknown. She had already portrayed Martha Jefferson in the original cast of 1776 in 1971, with Ken Howard as Jefferson (White Shadow) and had received rave reviews. and if it was post 1977 (you don't say what year you saw it) she had been in Eight is Enough as Tom Bradford's second wife, replacing Diana Hylands, who succomed to cancer. Barry Williams could have been interesting!
