Dancing on pool table question....

There appears to be no velvet-like cloth on the pool table that Christopher Walken is dancing on. Is this a error on the film makers part or did early pool tables not have cloth? If it did have a cloth top you wouldn't hear the clicking of the tap dancing. Opinions?

It's the depression, they can't afford to replace the cloth. Dancing fools kept cutting it up.

Wow. Talk about nit-picking. The Walken dance sequence is part of the FANTASY scenes in the film and so not necessarily bound by strict verisimilitude, not to mention the danger to Walken dancing on a slippery surface.
