i loved this when i was little wish it was available to own in america

I remember this too. It used to be on The Movie Channel all the time back in 1983-84. Haven't seen it since though...

Did Peter have to do a really tough math problem and show the answer on his tail? I think a snake latched on to his tail and made the answer for him. Not sure if this is the right movie.

Yes, that is this movie. That's the one thing I remember most about this flick.
