Hallmark Movie of the Week

I just watched this movie and to my surprise and disappointment it very reminiscent of a Hallmark movie-of-the-week. Maybe it was better in 1981 but watching it now the writing and music score were just unbearable. I would have turned it off after the first thirty or so minutes but I felt Henry and Jane Fonda and Katherine Hepburn deserved my attention. All of whom are always enjoyable but instead overacted the hell of some of the most boring, tired and cliche writing I've heard in film in a long time. Positively the director's fault, to which I put a lot of blame on, or maybe it's just so far dated. I can't believe Katherine Hepburn stole the Oscar from Meryl Streep's powerful performance in The French Lieutenant's Woman.

I agree. I didn’t think this movie was that good, not award-worthy. Henry Fonda was too over the top. The plot got a little sappy at times. The setting was beautiful though

I get the feeling that this film would not have received half as much attention if the actors weren’t such big names

"Chariots of Fire" was the deserving winner of the Best Picture award.
