Ending Scene

I hated that the movie ended like that. The new husband (David) whispered to the clay bust "soon Amy, soon". Was he going to make her go crazy again? If I were her I think after everything that had happened to me I'd be careful because of the money. They left the movie wide open for a sequel, too bad it never happened.

Spoiler Alert!!!!!!Thank you thank you!!! At least someone wrote something about that darn ending "Soon Amy Soon. Drove me nuts. What does it mean? Is he a bad guy or a good guy? I wish someone would clear this up. Maybe if Kathleen Beller is reading this, maybe she can answer some of our questions. I mean, to end a good movie this way, well, it still haunts me. I saw it again alst night. All I could remember was one line "for the money". Never forgot that.

*spoilers*

I was startled to learn that her new hubby was evil after all!!

Poor Amy. No one but her daddy loved her, they were all after her money. But I must agree with the other poster. I would have been VERY VERY careful with my money after all that, particularly with someone who was involved with the original case to begin with.

I know, how sad! he WAS after her money too.
he even told her he was, right before he whispered that.
he said, I married you for your money, she said, I thought you married me for my body?, he said , that too..if that were me with all that money, id go back and live secluded in that cabin! couldn't trust anyone..

**SPOILER ALERT**

My guess is that the lawyer structured it so that she wasn't so vulnerable. But then again, what is an eighteen year old doing marrying a man in his thirties. My issue isn't the age difference, just the fact that she still is a teenager.

Just watched this Saturday night. What a great little triller. Soo, dumb question.....was he the guy in the mask the whole time?? I missed 10 minutes of it and I felt like I missed a lot lol

Come on, Franklin! It'll be a fun trip!

reply

No, I don't believe the cop was the guy.

If I recall correctly, her stepmom had a guy on the side that she was sleeping with and this was the masked guy.

You got to watch this on TV? Lucky! I wish they still played this film, I don't know why they never do!

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

reply

Yes! Some network called Family Net or something lol. Friday nights they have "date night" and play something less family friendly lol

The impression I got right away was that her husband was a good guy, but saw how easy it might be to send her over the hill. So, it is going to start all over again for her; poor Amy.

***SPOILERS***

The man in the mask was Dr. Letterman (Keir Dullea) who was also the lover of Adele (Mariette Hartley), Amy's stepmother. They wanted her out of the way so they could inherit her estate. Amy's father had confided in his lawyer that he believed that Adele had a lover, but was unable to prove it, and his boating accident was probably not an accident but foul play.

Also, let me just point out that Amy was not a teenager. She was due to inherit her father's estate on her 21st birthday, which was coming up in a few months. One of the main reasons Kathleen Beller wanted to do this role is that she would be playing an adult rather than a teenager.

It's an interesting possibility as to whether or not David was stalking Amy himself and their "chance" meeting was anything but. I think we're left to wonder if David knew who Amy was from the beginning, although he did help rescue her from Letterman and Adele's murder attempt. Perhaps he just wanted her money from the start, and set out to win her love and trust and make her believe in him. Rescuing her, helping to fake her death and to expose Adele and Cliff's scheme seemed to be the ideal way to do it. He knew then that Amy would trust him with her life.

In the end, we're led to believe that he was out to get her for her money all along. Creepy!
