I liked it

Reading most of the reviews on the message board, I see a lot are not keen. I bought "The Box Of The Baned" box set a while back and after the evil dead this had to be my favourite one. Before I go on, i'd never heard of the film so I didn't know what it would be like. Unlike lets say Zombie Flesh Eaters which is in the box set to. I'd heard alot of great reviews on how gory it was, but the hype was too much, crap acting, basic story and not really that good- I actually bought zombie flesh eaters 2 and found that better. I like the storyline in here, plain and simple but you can also do quite alot with it. The tension as well, every so often seeing the dream as it becomes clearer. People say the acting was bad but I found it okay, not as bad as zombie flesh eaters or I Spit On Your Grave, and it was also a kind of belivable story. Although I dn't get scared by horror movies, with an actuall normal human it is more real and frightening as it could really happen, and with a child, young and innocent, its even scarrier.

There is no way that Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 is better than the first one. Still, the real Lucio Fulci classic is "The Beyond". Zombie Flesh Eaters' main appeal is the zombie vs shark scene.

Sure the acting in Zombie Flesh Eaters might not be much better than in "Nightmares in a Damaged Brain" but it's hardly worse (particularly since it doesn't have godawful child actors to worry about) and the pacing in Zombie Flesh Eaters isn't so ridiculously glacial either.

Old post lol. I like both flesh eaters, I just think because of the hype I expected a lot more and enjoyed the gas mask wearing government types in the second.

The beyond is a good surreal film but the plot does confuse a lot of people as its a non linear plot to a certain degree. I'd actually say so far out of all Lucio Fulci films that I have so far seen, The City of the Living Dead is one of my favourites. The plot is simple but the atmosphere is what really stands out and unlike The Beyond it does make sense. The ending is a bit weird however.

However since writing the original post I have became a big Dario Argento fan and I'd have to pick him over Lucio Fulci.

I'd say "The Beyond" is probably the best of Fulci's gore films, and "Don't Torture A Duckling" the best of his giallo films - the only two of his I'd give an 8/10, which is quite a high rating in my book. He certainly made other good movies, though, including "Zombi 2"/"Zombie Flesh Eaters," "A Lizard in A Woman's Skin," "The Psychic," and "New York Ripper" (which combines the two genres rather effectively). I know "City of the Living Dead" and "House by the Cemetery" are fan favorites, but I thought they were just decent, good for one viewing.

I dug it, too. It's extremely disturbing stuff because it's something that could actually happen.

I liked it as well, nice and scary which so few horror flicks really are. It has this really grotty atmosphere to it, and some of the gore scenes are truly cringe-inducing. Something like Abel Ferrara attempted, but fell short of, with "Driller Killer" - the first film that comes to mind for comparison's sake. Undoubtedly one of the better Video Nasties, a solid 7/10 IMO.

I never really got driller killer. I know a lot of people went in expecting a horror and it isn't really a horror at least in the traditional sense. I rewatched it a few years ago as it was showing on the Horror Channel in the UK and it was just a chore to actually get through it. It felt more like a live band performance as the film seems to focus more on the band than anything else. It doesn't help that both the video and audio quality are really bad. It's one of those films that people seem to class as a very underrated misunderstood classic and I just can't see it.

OP didn't like Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979)?
