Jus bought the DVD a few days ago, I dunno why but it's something about the trailer that's really cool aswell, no idea what though.
Awesome film.
Love it to bits.
And yes, it is unfortunately underrated, no idea why though. The disco scene is the most memorable of the movie.

Take this quarter,go down town and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face

i thout the ending was the most memorable.funny a surprise!

This was a good movie and it still is. It's just the right movie to watch on a quiet night with massive amounts of soda and popcorn.

A true popcorn movie!

This film is underrated, with the scene stealing performance from Rutger Hauer

reply

Definitely, an underrated film. This is one of Stallone's best performances. It was great to see him break from the Rocky mold by doing this film, and Victory, in 1981.

I couldn't agree more! I love seein' old NY before Disney took over. I was watchin' Nighthawks for the umpteenth time this past weekend with hubby. I told him how much I Love this movie's use of NYC. It was just a great movie. I never get tired of seein' it.

Me too, this movie is never boring for me and I get satisfaction every time I watch it

About underrating,I think you're right when you say this movie is less considered than it would deserve but we must note Sly was coming out from the period of the two first chapters of Rocky and one year later it came Rambo.
For this reason the movie is underrated, because it is placed between the main heros performed by Stallone.

In my opinion, this is the best movie out of Rocky and Rambo.

Exactly. No doubt Rocky and Rambo were good. But, Nighthawks just did it for me. It spoke to me I guess. I dunno. It's just my favorite.

Mine too. This film is a classic. Love the part where the coward blows the pretty girl to bits at the British department store

Yes this episode shows how a typical terrorist is,his appearance is kind and calm,a real gentleman(the purpose is not to give any suspects).
I think - even if the movie is quite old-it can teach a lot about terrorism, because also modern terrorists are like Wulfgar, just let's consider terroristic attacks in London in July 2005:they were performed by people who had been living there for years, they were rich and nobody would have suspected them.
This fact learns also that terrorists are vey hard to identify.

Rutger Hauer so completely retired the 'German terrorist role', that I couldn't take Alan Rickman, a fine actor, seriously, in Die Hard.

I think they both perform their roles well but they are different character, because Rutger Hauer is the executor of terroristic attacks while Alan Rickman is the mind of a terroristic organization.
In fact,if you listen to Hartman's words he says that Wulfgar works for the international terroristic webs and also in the movie you can understand that he's got several people he works for(Hammad,Mercer)

reply

The 'mind' of a 'terroristic' wouldn't be in the field, conducting 'terroristic activities', hollering 'yippie ky yay'. You'd never see him. He'd be invisible.

I meant that Alan Rickman is a member of a terroristic group and the leader of that men who invaded Crystal Plaza, the building.
In fact he gives them orders and seldom acts,he is often sat down.
Alan Rickman's purpose is to free his friends jailed in several parts in the world as you can hear during his speech to police while Wulfgar carries out terroristic attacks for others.

Agreed.

Stallone in drag. Rutger Hauer—who MADE the movies Blade Runner, The Blood of Heroes and Ladyyawke—as the antagonist. Lindsay Wagner, THE Bionic Woman herself. Billy DEE Williams in his days of Colt .45 Malt Liquor glory. This had greatness written all over it. Plus platform shoes.

And, to be more serious, Nighthawks was ahead of its time in identifying the effect of terrorism in our global village, as other posters have already stated. I’m watching it now and thinking how much the world has changed in the 38 years since the film was released. The world today is colder, more fragmented, paced much faster, phone booths (in which Rutgar is standing, calling the United Press on an analog telephone in the frame I have freezed) are gone, but terrorism has become not just a fact of life, but a way of life; for example, the troll.

Brainstorm: The Expendables take on the internet trolls. I would pay real money to see that!

MOM Don’t kill my son. He’s retarded and angry.

SLY Hate crime is a disease. I am the cure.

I thought it was pretty good

Man if only all of Sly’s movies were this good!
