Code Red DVD to release Night Warning in 2008!

Code Red DVD has a new distributor, and a slew of releases has been announced for 2008, including Night Warning, under the alternate title "Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker":

Of all the 70's and 80's horror films that have yet to find their way to DVD, this is definitely one of the ten or so that I'm most interested in, so this is excellent news to me!

this is the best news I'v heard in ages. Night Warning (aka BBNM) is my favourite early 80s psycho/slasher film. Susan Tyrrell is amazing and she has done a scene specific commentary and interview for the disc. Hopefully they can get Jimmy McNichol and Bo Svenson on board too.

Definitely a thumbs-up for this news... this is one of my favs and it is deserving of the Code Red treatment. Good work, Code Red folks! Keep 'em coming!

Check out the new screenshots on Code Red's blog:

The bad news is that they are going for a September or October release - I want it now, dammit! But seriously, I think those screenshots look sweet...

And that's coming from two posters who are posting here just like the rest of us...

Glad to hear this. I just watched it and thought it was great. Can't wait for the DVD. I'll be buying it!

reply

Wow where did you watch it at?? I've been wanting to see this movie for awhile. FYI everyone that's a Code Red fan, Sole Survivor (1983) was an excellent movie even if you don't like the early 80s slashers! Can't believe it was filmed for a mere 350,000!

According to fangoria.com's chopping list as of September 2nd, 2008. The DVD has been moved to a as-of0yet undated release date. Guess we will all have to wait longer.

reply

Oh man! I saw this movie once in '83 at a neighborhood theatre with a buddy and wasn't expecting much but I must admit this movie is a stone trip thanks to Tyrrell and Svenson along with the wild incestuous and homosexual/phobic overtones.

reply

That release date wasn't very 'final', was it? ;)

reply

Code Red is now saying April of 2009 for this DVD.

reply

So, Guns N' Roses put out Chinese Democracy (I don't care, but it happened anyway). Student Bodies got a dvd. Duke Nukem Forever is apparently in a playable stage. I honestly expect to be able to play that before this ever gets a dvd release. That's okay, though, I still have my VHS, and I love it.

reply

April 2009. The DVD was delayed to include another interview/commentary.

reply

Anyone know what happened to the pending release? It was on the Code Red site for a while and now like many of their other previous announcements... it's just gone. Last I heard the release was delayed for some additional bonus material, (interview). Now it has been removed from the Code Red site and is not available on amazon for pre-order. I love the many Code Red DVD releases I own but I also can appreciate fans becoming angry when a company announces a release and then...nothing. If something went wrong (and we all know that is possible), have enough respect for the fans and customers to communicate the problems. I hope this release will see the light of day in the near future.

The rights have shifted to the new Ryko-distributed label Scorpion Releasing, and it is due in 2010.

reply

It seems that Night Warning is not out for release in the near future. If you have your old VHS copies then keep them safe and warm. This one won't be out as quickly as most of the other nasties.

The Slayer is another problem child.

reply

Agreed. Keep on to those videos until the 2010 DVD release.

Yea, apparently it was delayed to include an audio commentary and an interview with Jimmy McNichol. According to the CodeRed blog, the extras are done and the DVD is "coming soon" (whatever that mans).

I agree with gax001. I've been waiting ever since Code Red announced it like 3 years ago. It's a damn shame, this slasher movie is brilliant in my opinion. Luckily, I have the VHS copy around. Not the best quality but it will do.

This never happened :(
It's a really good movie too. Too bad. It's doubtful we'll ever see a proper dvd release. At least not anytime soon.

Well folks, after the very long wait, Night Warning may finally see the light of day at last!:

Well, that didn't happen.

Now, in April of 2014, there is talk again that the DVD is coming from Code Red. I'm not promising anything, after so many false starts dating back years, now.

What I've heard recently is that Code Red made two transfers of the film, but was dissatisfied with both of them. Reportedly, they have newer 35MM film elements, and have done a third transfer. At least one insider thinks it's coming this year, but I really don't know. I'm just here to report the latest scuttlebutt.

Code Red got this released 2 months ago & it is an excellent DVD loaded with extras. Love it!

reply

Yep. Just ordered my copy.
