Can't believe how upright, uptight and upstanding Belushi was here!

He looked and acted just like Joe Conservative, he seemed like the proverbial "square" suburbanite, yet in real life, didn't he die just a few months later from his drug problems??

Good movie all the same. Had a very surreal quality about it, the way it just meandered in and out of some freaky territory. Not at all what I expected.

A great actor he was. And yes, he died three months after the movie's release.

Funny movie.

Well, just because he played a certain role, doesn't mean he was that way in real life. Look at him in Continental Divide. There he doesn't seem like Bluto at all. He was a performer.

i think, if he'd have lived, he would have proved himself but he needed to clean up. i liked him in this movie but there was something, i dont know, sometimes his performance seemed a bit forced, or phoned in or something. i felt the same way about continental divide and yet i do like both films, and i thought he was good in them, but... he could have been better.

reply

He never had the chance to do that, unfortunately. If he had been able to clean up, he would've had a longer career.

This movie made me respect John Belushi as an actor. He acts completely different than what he was in real life, and he looks about 50 years old.

Yes, Belushi was a talent that unfortunately was cut short by his demons of drug abuse. In those days, they didn't know you could die from that so it was more accepted for him to take these drugs. He did try to stop, but he didn't try hard enough. I think if he had not overdosed that night, he might've taken some time off with Dan and planned future stuff without all this crap.
