Which version of My Bloody Valentine is better

Yeah, original version is waaaaaay better.
And that's saying something after the excitingly fun remake. :)

The ending is MUCH better in the original but I actually liked the remake just a little bit more.

original UNCUT!!!!!!!! The dryer death (mabel's) was one of the best

reply

The original is far superior... the uncut My Bloody Valentine definitely stands out amongst its slasher movie bretheren; it's much more subtle and atmospheric than the others. Very well crafted, to be sure.

The remake, while it had occasional worthwhile moments and Tom Atkins, was just lame.

reply

I sooo agree! It's such a creepy ending. It's like: "Holy crap, he's going to come back!"

ORIGINAL ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!

reply

dammit i havent seen the uncut version but i like both.

reply

I can't really decide which I like more, they're both brilliant slashers.

THIS IS NOT AN EXIT

Though while both films have something very fun to offer, the original blows the remake out of the water. The uncut version is freaking great.

Both are good, but I'd go with the original. Feels less "Hollywood", which makes the first feel more real. Plus the miner is just plain scarier.

The original was good 28 years ago but the remake is a whole lot better than the original I hate to say it.

I love the concept of the original movie and it was good but I felt the new one was a lot better though in my opinion.

The remake was successful large in part to the 3D effect, which was fun.

The original is good though. If you've already seen the remake, the original
might be a letdown, not to mention the fact that it's close to 30 years old
so it's dated also but it's not a bad film, no.

reply

It's not dated except maybe for the hair and clothes. The special effects were pretty good for the time - and I prefer that over CGI anyway (I haven't seen the remake)

It's delicious! And just look at that shine!

Normally I almost always favor the originals, but in this case I have to go with the remake. I thought MBV 09 was just a lot of fun where as the original was entertaining, but I was slightly bored at times.

Suspense level was decent and it had a creepy vibe, but it all depends on what you are looking for I suppose.

Completely agree. The storyline in the new one is AWFUL. There's not even a f_ucking dance, which totally gives away who it is. And don't get me started on the cliche "surprise" twist. So many movies in recent years pull that sh*t and think they're being clever. Newsflash: YOU AREN'T.

Back to the original post, I say the original wins for these reasons:

1-Creepy killer and deaths (the remake has some amazing deaths, but that's it).

2-Unknown actors, which makes things even better. Back in that time, I'd see Neil Affleck/Axel in the beginning of Scanners for a split second.

3-Characters you REALLY care about... well, maybe except for Howard...

Like most in this thread, I like the original more, preferably the uncut version. That being said, I did find MBV3D to be a far more enjoyable movie than either the Halloween or the Friday the 13th remakes.

reply

The original is waaaay better than the crappy remake!
The new one has got no atmosphere, no plot, CGI, bad actors/characters and a stupid twist. Even if you considered it as a standalone film it's just bad, lame & cheap looking! I don't know what's going on these days, just make a movie with an alibi plot, use bad/unlikable actors, fast pace + gore (worst example: Friday the 13th remake)! And these movies easily cash in more than the originals! The remake is even rated higher than the original here! I just don't get it! :(
It has been really easy becoming a successful director or writer over the last ten years, just copy an older movie! You'll have success and make money.
Welcome to Hollywood!

I watched the original many years ago, then watched the remake and I really liked it. But, after watching the original today for the first time in years, I realize that it is a much better film. More suspense and more deaths I believe. I like them both, but the original is more of a mining massacre, where the 2nd one doesn't seem so focused on the mine which takes away from the story.
