Funniest Scene

There's a scene in this film that had me laughing as hard as I did when Indiana Jones shot the swordsman... The Hulk Running scene. Was that joke just an acquired taste of Brooks humor, or did anyone else laugh their butts off like I did?

Next thing they'll be breeding us like cattle. You've gotta tell them. SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!

You're not alone. I thought that scene was hilarious.

Human Beings...Wow

reply

Absolutely hilarious.

"Hulk Running, that needs to be changed to Hulk Screaming".

That is a classic movie moment.

reply

Quite a few of those in this film - I've always loved Modern Romance.

LOL - Hulk SCREAMING - classic ("THAT'S the effect!")

I really LOLed in his scene with super dave. I love how he doesnt want to do things then he is so weak and he just agrees with whatever the people say. he does that a few times, I love it.

Yeah, like the 'wrist wallet'?

A.B: "There's pockets in this thing"

B.E.: "Ah, it's better to keep it on your wrist."

A.B.: "......OK."

These are all good. The movie's funny, but not hysterically so. It's just so damn true that you can't help but find sad humor in just about everything in it - kind of like life. I don't know why, but the line "Gotta get some new E" just tickled me silly.

I too love the Hulk running sequence. What I think is so great about it is the timing. The scene is set up when Albert's character requests a running sound effect. There's a break for the sound man to search for the effect reel. There's some dialog. Then there's a long several minute scene of Albert calling the phone number on his girlfriend's phone bill. Then some more dialog. Finally, after all that waiting and buildup, the pay-off. They play the Hulk scene, and it's ridiculously wrong for their movie. It's the complete opposite of a cheap laugh.

A.B.: "What do you think?"

Editing room guy (deadpan): "I think you saved the picture."

A.B.: "OK... we're through?"

My brother and I have always thought that scene was hilarious. The editing room guy makes it especially funny. You have Albert Brooks who is so excited and pretentious and then this "union scale" editing guy who is just so bored with the whole process. He has an attitude as if he doesn't want to be there yet what the heck else is he going to do. I just love "I think you saved the picture".

reply

So perfect.

It won't chip, peel, blister, crack, flake or rust in any way.

reply

blameline, you are not alone! The first time I saw that scene I laughed so hard I couldn't breath. It is absolutely genius! One of the all-time best scenes, in one of the all-time best movies.

The funniest scene for me was when he forgot to turn on his answering machine and he frustratingly says...."Why buy it!" For some reason I laughed at that.

reply

I love when he's at the sporting goods store and letting the sales guy talk him into buying all that stuff.

reply

"Look at my friends. Look how many friends I have. God, I got a not....I got a lot...I got a lot of nice friends"

I am a big fan of Albert Brooks, and I loved this film! I don't know if this qualifies as the funniest scene, but I love it when Albert is sitting on the couch right after breaking up with Mary, and in a drugged-out stupor has just made an irrational rebound date with a woman named Ellen. Then he tries to rationalize it by having a one-way dialogue with his pet bird, Petey. "Petey.....Ellen!"

I don't know why, but every time I try to rationalize any relationship that is going - or has gone - south, I just keep hearing that line in my head...

"Petey....Ellen!"
