Couple taking a selfie in front of Strands

When Max and Lorraine are walking along the park, you can see a couple taking a selfie in front of Strand Books with a Polaroid camera. Really hilarious stuff. Were selfies with Polaroids popular back in the 70s/80s? The way the scene is set up it could almost be a joke about the selfie trend today.

I had a Polaroid in the 80's and I was taking selfies like a rockstar. its nothing new.

They weren't called selfies, but people took them!

No.

Selfies did not exist during the more civilized era, when people still weren't 100% crazy.

Someone might have taken a self-portrait every now and then, but it was not the same thing for multitude of reasons - one was, you couldn't just waste film that way, film was expensive, and even with a Polaroid camera, you chose carefully what pictures to take and gave good consideration to every shot, you didn't just hungrily snap more and more crap no one wants to see, like modern 'people' do (if they can be called that).
