North American Hockey and Football gear in post-apocalypse Australia??

I never understood this about The Road Warrior... am I to assume in the Mad Max future Australia has a sudden change and starts to love North American Hockey and Football to the level that it would be easy to find masks and pads etc???

I mean I could see the cricket and field hockey stuff... but Ice Hockey and Grid Iron football gear?

It's not like they had ebay at that time...

Anyway... just seemed odd that they would use American/Canadian sports gear for armour in post apocalypse Australia

Well, hockey is an Olympic sport. They possibly had some gear from that. I can't remember, but for a while, there was an international NFL league. Did Australia have a team?

The movie is also very 80s. The died mohwaks, shoulder pads in general. Where in a dystopian world would you find the time to dress up like this? You'd be too busy you know...trying to survive. Still an awesome movie.

I've always wondered about the American football shoulder pads. Hockey is all over, but Football, American football, is American. Aussies play their version of the game, but it's more like original rugby.

They used them as props because they gave the characters a certain look, but I really don't think that they were supposed to be American Football and Hockey gear in the story.

This little detail probably doesn't clear up any mysteries, but some of it is lacrosse gear (like Pappagallo's helmet).
