About the ending...(SPOILERS)

Methinks that, in the end, Max was right about distrusting or disliking the people he helped, because they cheated him with the gasoline. They used Max as a way to escape from the punks/savages. His resentment or anger seemed to have a point, anyway.
I think he only respected or had a little sympathy for the Gyro Captain, although in the few last scenes.
Best action film i've ever seen, with an unforgettable ending.

I've always thought that Max had an idea that it was a suicide mission, anyway. He's lost his wheels, he's lost his dog, he's all busted-up; part of the reason he wanted to drive the rig was to get revenge on the Humungus' gang for what they did to HIM.

- Crazy. All crazy but I'm.

It's why Max doesn't like people. They're trouble.

It is so bluntly realistic. There is no ride off into the sunset with the love interest. They tease it and she dies. The dog doesn't live. All the nice people get it. The bad guys are cold and ruthless. Max is a total bad ass anti-hero. The community uses him to escape. You could relate to the people. It wasn't an embellished action film. You could say yeah that is the way it would happen. The movie has such a real, raw look.

I don't think Max was too much the "anti-hero"; in the end, he had more heart/feelings than those he was trying to help, who, weren't too nice with him after all.
But one could also think that Max helped them for personal reasons, just to redeem himself and become part of humanity again.
This is an extraordinary movie, a true classic of the last century.

But before Max changed his mind and decided to drive the truck, Papagallo said he was going to drive. As someone above mentioned, it was more than likely a suicide mission. At least Papagallo knew what was in the tanker.

Annoying the world since 1960!
