The car she was driving...

One scene in which Lola is talking to von Bohm in her car during their first "stroll" I happened to notice that her car looked awfully similar to the car which Dorothy Malone's character drives in Written on the Wind. Anyone have any idea if it's a similar make or model? (I think it's a Mercedes but I could be wrong)

I just thought it was an interesting homage Fassbinder was making to Sirk (as he was heavily influenced by him) and possibly a parallel he was drawing in some way to the Malone character.

Richard Chesler: Is that your blood?
Narrator: Some of it, yeah.

The red roadster car she is driving is a Mercedes SL 300 (or 190, not sure) convertible.
You can google it, it was back then one of the most expensive cars on the market, and a vintage model of the 300 is nowadays worth a fortune.

According to this site, the car Lola was in was a 1961 Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster (which I suppose would constitute an anachronism goof, since the film was supposed to be set in 1955 W. Germany). http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_20986-Mercedes-Benz-190-SL-W121-1961.html

Also, referring to the car driven by Dorothy Malone's character in "Written on the Wind," it was apparently a 1955 Woodill Wildfire. http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_100565-Woodill-Wildfire-1955.html
