whatever happened to klinton spilsbury?

if a dvd release ever surfaces it would be good to get the views of klinton spilsbury. i remember reading some really bad things about him at the time (tantrums, arrogance, refusal to re-dub certain scenes etc) but no one ever heard his side of the story. i think the movie is ok, it is disappointing to see him in the mask for only the last third of the film but by the way the film jumps around i expect a lot of re-editing was done and the running time was reduced. mr spilsbury, where are you?????

I believe that he pretty much "retired" from acting after this. I tried to research him on the internet last year and did not come up with much. I think that IMDB lists him in a couple behind the scenes crew credits. You are right though , I would love to hear his thoughts now after 25 YRS.

i use the imdb for some relaxation and a bit of fun now and again. what gives you the right to spoil it for others. also, my skin is tough enough, i work in forensic psychiatry so the likes of you just make me laugh

The film was a colossal flop. Although I saw it when it was released, I don't recall it being that terrible. Spilsbury said some horrible things about Clayton Moore, the public turned on him before the film was released. WHen it was, they ate it alive.

I BOUGHT THE FILM ON DVD FOR A DOLLAR TODAY AT WALGREENS...NATIONWIDE....ITS ONE OF THOSE THIN STIFF CARDBOARD DEALS WITH TWO MOVIES ON IT...THE OTHER IS SOME VERSION OF ZORRO...NO LINER NOTES AND I AM SELLING IT SEALED ON EBAY.

According to what I've heard it's because they thought that Spilsbury's voice sounded too "high" and "feminine".

I read a few years ago, he was manager at a Denny's restaurant, and was offered the Disney theme park stage version of Dick Tracy, and he took it.
Saw the TLotLR, it wasn't that bad. On an Entertainment Tonight episode, they did one of those Whatever Happend to? and Klinton was featured. He had stated his wife was dying, and he he wanted to be with her while she passed away, and Hollywood held him responsible for the flop.

I just read a funny story that after a bar fight they phoned Michael Horse, the actor playing Tonto, to come get him. His reply was classic - "whoa, that faithful companion stuff is only in the movies!". Apparently, like George Lazenby, he was just so obnoxious that he killed his career with his first role. Interestingly enough Steve McQueen was just as unlikeable but he had the advantage of being talented.

Klinton Spilsbury is an American actor. His lone known acting credit is the film "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" (1981), playing the title role. This lone credit made him the subject of a trivia question in the You Don't Know Jack video game series.

Klinton Spilsbury's dialogue in "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" was looped by actor James Keach.

He was involved in a fight during the filming of: "The Legend of the Lone Ranger".

He is the son of Max Spilsbury, former head coach of the Northern Arizona University football team.

An article about him in Parade Magazine in 1989 revealed that he had spent some time in Europe and was working as a model. He had hopes to revive his career as an actor, but admitted in the article that he was not having much luck.

Rumored to have worked at Subway during a dry spell in his career.

Last known to be living in Los Angeles.

As a previous poster already reported, Klinton Spillsbury's wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer as filming began. This was not revealed at the time, due to privacy for his wife. I don't know about the other rumors (fighting, drinking, etc) or even how much his wife's illness had on the outcome of his performance, but I'm sure there was some correlation. As for why his voice was dubbed, I don't believe another thread that said his voice was considered "too high and feminine;" if the tonal quality of his voice was considered too feminine, that would have been noticed before filming had even begun. More likely his voice merely reflected his poor performance in a number of scenes, and after so many scenes are looped with a different actor's voice, it makes sense to dub the entire movie so viewers won't notice a difference.

I've never seen this movie, but what I'd always heard was that it was bad on many levels, so it doesn't seem fair to hold the actor solely reponsible for it's failure.

I only slightly remember this film at the time, heard it didn't do that well because of reports about Klinton, the only reason I remember it now was cause of the new movie out which has done just as well.
