Verbinski and Bruckheimer are commencing with an update

The word is that Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer are commencing Ranger as their next project. This should be interesting and hopefully a little better then Pirates. That series has had its day I'm affraid. I dont know much about the Lone Ranger although I have had some interest after seeing the Mike Jr. character in Road to Perdition reading a book with the character back when it was big in the late 30's in which Road is also taking place. A great flick by the way. A truely underrated film that should get more praise then what its been getting over the years. A Tom Hanks classic and the books by Max Collins are great to boot too. The graphic novel is the best. The second I havent finished although Im might try to finish it sometime. The third I dont even know why I wasted my money on it. I heard it was horrible which doesnt surprise me. It really is hard to keep a story as good as Road fresh over the years with Mike Jr. taking over his Dad's killing ways.

Yeah, I think the Pirates movies are overated. The first one was a good movie, but the two sequels are long drawn out nonsense. Reminds me of the Matrix trilogy. Anyway, back to main topic. I'm not sure that a Lone Ranger movie has much of a shot at being a big hit in today's world. The old time heroes movies never seem to do well in recent years. (The Shadow, The Phantom, etc...) I happen to like these movies but I don't see younger audiences embracing these old characters anymore.

Those movies weren't Bruckheimer productions. You can bet Jerry will make his Lone Ranger bombastic and dumb enough to find wide acceptance at the multiplexes. He won't be getting my $10, though.

(P.S. - I love THE SHADOW, too!)

The new comic book series of The Lone Ranger is ver popular. I just hope they do not destroy the story by making it anything like Pirates. I think the key will be to make it a little bit more violent and action packed like Tombstone.

Just imagine how loud and empty-headed Bruckheimer's update will be!!! Will The Who be re-working the William Tell Overture??

I agree marisa girl. I think unfortunatly it would have to be loud and empty headed to stand a chance at today's box office. We're on the same page with The Shadow too. Wasn't that an underrated, underappreciated movie? I think part of the problem is that todays "younger audiences" (under 30) aren't real familiar with these characters anymore. It's a shame though.

Indeed; it would be nice if Universal would give us a widescreen dvd so we can see it in all its splendor.

I think it's worthy of some kind of special features too. I can't believe they didn't even stick the trailer on the DVD. But I also can't believe that Legend of Lone Ranger has never even gotten a DVD release. (at least not Region 1) I know that it was considered a flop but there are all kinds of obscure b-movies released on DVD.

One good thing about a Bruckheimer update is that it may convince Universal to release LOTLR on dvd...

Yeah, Universal will probably want to cash in on the hype. If they give it a release it will probably be bare-bones though. I think it's Universal though that owns the old Spiderman series from the 70's and they never released that even with the movies being monster hits. They really missed the boat on that one. Look at all the cool releases WB gave us last year during the Superman Returns hype, and that movie SUCKED and was a flop.

So true!!! Was that not an INSULT to Superman fans the world over?!?! The character was completely misrepresented and the "story" was a tired rehash of the '78 classic.

I thought Returns was extremly boring. Yes it did seem like a rehash in a lot of ways. The plots were way too similiar. I think maybe Singer tried too hard to make an homage to Superman '78. I love Superman: the movie, but I think he would have been better off starting from scratch like Batman Begins with a fresh franchise. I think tying it in with the Reeves movies may have hurt more than helped in the end. By the way, I really hated the addition of Lois and Clarks son. I thought that was foolish territory to get into.

I couldn't agree more! BATMAN BEGINS was everything a comic-book movie should be and more; best of all, it's literate, adult, and dramatically sound -- a joy from start to finish!!!

Yeah, Begins was a great movie. It was the gritty Batman movie I've been waiting for. I would have liked to see a costume a little closer in appearance to the comics and a little bit more menacing Scarecrow, but overall it's the best Batman movie ever made by far.

Please don't attempt another Lone Ranger movie. It was bad enough the first time.

And I enjoyed Superman Returns. Bryan Singer actually knew what to do with it.

And Lionsgate I believe owns the rights to The Legend Of The Lone Ranger instead of Universal, though Universal may have acquired the video rights along with other ITC/Associated Film Distribution titles.

I agree, I want it on DVD, and the score on CD!

No matter the genre, gunfights can be great (i.e. "The Matrix" Trilogy and Desperado). But the one thing such movies did that will likely take the Western 'effect' out of something like a (new) Lone Ranger movie and spoil it is an overexagerated gunfight. I hope the cast and crew are cafeful about this.

I may be evil, but that doesn't mean I don't like to party down once in a while.

If Verbinski and Bruckheimer are on board then I can only assume that Johnny Depp will be their first choice to play the Lone Ranger... or Orlando Bloom *Shudder*.

No, it'll probably be Nicholas Cage.

I think a Batman Begins-type edgier update of this movie would be a great idea, along the lines of 3:10 to Yuma. What about Wes Studi as Tonto?

It looks like the movie is actually going to be made. This is from a Mar. 27, 2008 posting on thr.com

I just travelled in time to warn you. Discard your high hopes. He makes an awful western-comedy that flops completely.

Ok even though I loved this new Lone Ranger movie, what you said was hilarious !
