Dennis portrayed real life Mullholand racer Charley Woit aka Crazy Charlie in this movie . As always Hoppers performance was as good as the real Charlie' performance up on the hill... he was always the winner.

I think that Dennis Hopper really was the heir apparent to James Dean. Looking at his long, long carreer, there is no doubt in my mind that if James Dean had lived he would have had a filmography very similar to Dennis Hopper's.
