The movie Wrong Turn must be inspired by this movie.

Espcially by the scary inbred twins in this movie.

I'd say the director probably saw it. How come everyone seems to forget a little film called 'Deliverance' when discussing influence? The backwoods slasher film has everything to give to Deliverance. Granted, Friday the 13th kickstarted the genre, Deliverance (the book/film) gave us the 'basic' ground rules.

The waterfall scenes in both films ALONE leads me to believe the people behind Wrong Turn were fans of Just Before Dawn at some point.

I would say they got a lot of inspiration from this one. Too bad Wrong Turn is largely awful in the writing, acting and overall music video look.

Would have to agree having watched both over the last few days. This has long been a favorite of mine from many years ago from the old video shop days, the location just won it for me. I like Wrong Turn, the first one anyway, and have been wondering what other films can people recommend in this 'backwoods' subgenre? Deliverence, Hunters Blood, the brilliant Rituals and to certain extent the TCM movies. The likes of The Burning/Friday the 13th would be more straight slasher with a rural location IMO. Haven't seen The Final Terror but belief it would fit the basics. Mother's Day maybe, haven't seen it, but it's on the watch list. Axe I'm about to watch, any others? Southern Comfort would be on the fringe too.

Southern Comfort... great choice.

Wrong Turn (2003) is a solid little film, but Just Before Dawn is leagues better.
