Video Quality...

I just watched this on an HD channel and some of the scenes are so grainy looking. They almost look like they were filmed with a heavy filter. Does anyone know if this was intentional or just a result of the quality of film used?

It's probably more as a result of grain build-up from the number of optical composite scenes involved. There were giant props involved, but nearly every time you see a tiny Lily in frame with another full-size actor, it's an optical.

Nice to know the answer! I just purchased it from the Universal Vault series and naturally being an official universal release (despite being a fancy DVD-r that's another subject lol) I TOO found it incredibly grainy. But hey I guess if it's the best I can get for this classic I'll be happy thanks for the grain input I'd never have known that :)

Technically, the film always had a cheap look to it, grain and all. At least that is how I remember it when seeing it as a kid in 1981 and is the main reasn I came to this board ... to see if others thought the same thing.
