One of my all time favorite movies when I was growing up..My father copied it on VHS and I would watch it at least once a year...Reading the threads, I see that it is not yet available on DVD? I would love to hear about everyones opinions on this movie..The last time I saw it was about 1989 and would love to see it again..I just hope that I won't be disappointed...
No, this gem has held up well. I agree, this was one of my favorites growing up. I procured a vhs copy from a mom and pop chain that went out of business. Now that I am older, it is the feel of the movie, the atmosphere.
One thing that has always bothered me is that the only ever official US vhs release of this film (Embassy) is quite cut and censored. And there is no DVD at all (yet!). I hope when it eventually comes out on DVD, it is uncut. I saw the uncut version twice, on late night Cinemax, in the mid-eighties. After that, I got the tape, and realized it was cut. Never saw it uncut again. Still remember it though! The opening rape scene is considerably longer, more brutal, and more disturbing.
No, there is actually an interesting story at the core of the film, a great setting on an island with a run-down house, a great female lead in uber-hottie Janet Julian, and a really potent atmosphere of dread & claustrophobia. Watch it with friends and beer!
yes the atmosphere was nice and thick as hell. one of the best slashers i have seen in years. now lets all pray that a uncut, restored and lighter Dvd will come soon.
many movies that are out of print can be found on dvds either by transfer or brought once they came out i for once do transfers to dvd and yes i have humongous on dvd...
can you actually see anything ? I downloaded this from a website and it's extremely dark .. you really can't see much on the island at night ... the copy i rented from a video store a few years ago was very dark also .... so .. i sthat the way it really is .. or are these just bad versions of the movie ?
No, that's the only version, I guess. The daylight print is nice and clear. So, it IS badly lit at night - so much so, that I was more curious as to what was going on rather than horrified.
