I think this 2006 flick called Hatchet-http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0422401/- is inspired by this movie. It has a different backstory for the killer, but the
it's monster seem similar in appearance and method of disposing of its victims
largely by its own hands...

apparently for 2012. I just came from the FAQ board for the new Friday the 13th (2009) and this was listed with A LOT of other upcoming horror remakes...

There isn't a confirmed word, but supposedly they're remaking it. Then again, I also heard they were remaking Rawhead Rex and a whole plethora of other horror movies, and I still have yet to see confirmation on any of them.
