About the ending....

Who can explain the ending? What was that noise as if their plane crashed and right when Anthony Quinn turned his head to see what happened the movie ended.
If the plane actually crashed, what's the purpuse of that "plot twist"? What good does it do to spoil a perfectly good "happy ending"?
Otherwise - I love this movie! :)

Actually I thought it was cool.....all you head was engine trouble, not an actual crash....so it left you guessing.....did they? Or didn't they?

That sound was the plane having trouble. Sounds like they ran out of gas.

Personally I found the ending really cheap, a sort of cop-out that a lot of movies from the 70s and 80s have at the very end of the movie. Of course, crime doesn't pay, and the protagonists were hopelessly greedy, and maybe the "happy ending" didn't sit too well with the film makers. In any case, I thought it was a stupid ending to a stupid movie.

<spoiler alert>

i actually woke up this morning and watched the last 10 min of this film again to see if i could hear what the old dude was saying. if he was praying in spanish as i suppose he might be, and the plane did have engine trouble or go down, the general's prayer woul have been answered. as it was, it seems like the writers thought better of the ending where the battered capitalist adventurers celebrate in the escaping plane and shower each other with american beer and hundred dollar bills, but ran out of money to show the plane actually going down.

i thought the subplot with the fluffy dog continualy reappearing was the truly stupid bit.

I thought the ending was ok. A bit like the Italian Job with Michael Caine. You are left wondering do they or do they not get away with it!

You don't want to get too deep with films like this!!

Watched it for the first time last nite, and besides the plane going down, MAYBE(?) the sound of some funky ass jeep breaking down coming into this area of Mex., with some other suckers to rob?

"That's Dirty Girtie! Pull her bow and she'll say hello". (Pinky Rose in 3 Women)

The movie was just about an adventure, so the plane getting engine trouble was like saying the adventure continues. :D
