Is there a QUALITY DVD version?

All of the DVD's I've seen of High Risk look like they were dubbed off of a third generation VHS tape. I'd like to find a widescreen decent picture version of it.

reply

nope not yet...they all look like crap. All I can say is that at least it is on the dvd format. I am not sure which studio owns the rights as I have seen several different crappy releases of this film. I sure wish someone like "Blue Underground" would get the rights to this title and put out a decent release like they did with "The Final Countdown".

reply

I picked up a copy at Wal-Mart for 1 whole dollar on DVD bad quality or not you can't beat that!!!!!

reply

I'd pay $30.00 for a quality version in the original Widescreen. From what I've found out this was an "Indie" (independent) film and is in the Public Domain. Because of that anyone can legally burn and sell copies of it.

reply

I have both the video and DVD. I love this movie THAT much.

Hell, the tape is of better quality than the DVD.

reply

I can't imagine why anyone would let the copyright on this masterpeice run out.

reply

I agree with the previous reviewers here. I’d like to see someone like “Blue Underground” or at least somebody, put out a good, cleaned up version of this. I’d love it to be in Widescreen with some extra’s, but at this point I’d even settle for just a cleaned up version of it in blahish full screen. I’d pay bucks for a good-looking, good sounding version. I’ve had this movie for some time now on dvd but of course it’s a blah looking copy. I came here at IMDB to see if anyone else knew of a better version on dvd (there are several versions floating around). Looks like my question has already been asked by the first poster! Sigh...... Maybe someone knows and can tell us, what is the best of the blah looking versions?

reply

Haven't seen the movie since the early 80s, and am wondering something myself about these DVD releases: do they feature "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones when the chopper guys come to the rescue? I have a feeling this has been replaced due to copyright issues. Let me know.

reply

Satisfaction is still in there.

reply

Not only is there not a good quality version on DVD yet. All of the home video and pay cable versions have been edited quite a bit. Does anyone remember the scene when Lindsay Wagner has an argument with her lawyer? Many of Lindsay's part was edited out from the theatrical version (which makes me sad since I'm such a fan of hers). I saw it several times in the theatre (back in the day when I was an usher) and I remember alot that never made it to home video. I wonder why?

reply

I noticed those missing parts where Lindsy Wagner fights with her Lawyer.
I live in Oregon, So does Lindsey.
I wonder if she could be talked into introducing the film ?
I don't hear or see much on her these days.
But I guess she is still in our city.
I wonder if there is still a 35mm print of this film anywhere ?
Probably in very bad shape with serious vinegar deterioration issues.

I'm a Cinemajunkie !

I was a friend of Bruce Davison at the time he made this film, and I remember him being quite proud of it. I'm sure HE'D be available for a commentary track, also.

Great! I'd buy the 4 movies just to get a decent copy of "High Risk". Have you compared it to those versions that are genrally available in the bargain bins and is it a really decent transfer?

reply

Can you list the other three movies in the four pack and also maybe the UPC?

reply

I found:

# UPC/EAN: 787364443499

# Release Date: September 17, 2002

Is that the one?

reply

It's sad when you get a better quality picture off an old Beta copied from channel 5, then off a brand new DVD.

reply

Yeah same here, but atleast there this version and it goes in the dvd collection. I must say I am going through some serious DEJA VU right now watching it. At around 11 years of age, surely one of those first memorable movies that were surely attributing factors for me being a movie fanatic. Its very similar to "Lets get Harry" too, with the average Joes going to South America. Also in the spirit of uncomon valor, but of course they were vets, ENJOY the movie how ever you can get watch it!

reply

So today i bought a copy of this movie as part of a two pack produced by a company called catcom. The quality is really good on this one, and it even contains some old commericals and a cartoon also. The commerical infact, is an old winston commerical featuring the flintstones! An animated cigarette commercial. How about that! The other movie on the pack (which i paid around five dollars for at a local half-price bookstore) is a movie called "the glove" which i hear isn't as good.

reply

I just watched this movie for the first time, paid $2 for a new copy, and have to say that it was a pretty good movie and I really enjoyed it. I would love to see a good cleaned up copy sometime too.

reply

me too,,how about a blu ray

reply

i got this on a double feature along with "the glove", i don't know if this happens in other releases, but quite unexpected when subtitles suddenly appears. the catcom dvd releases usually is a double feature also containing old cartoons and commercials, set in a drive in theatre look, and this dvd contains an old black&white cigarette commercial with the flintstones, looks absolutely insane today.

like the sun came down the ceiling,
same old feeling,
sweetness in your smile,
a heavenly mood you manage to bring around,
i was like a phantom in a ghost town,
you transformed it to life and shine,
turning the grass green and not a cloud in the sky.
