Because this movie was so poorly received at the box office, 'Kaufman, Andy''s "The Tony Clifton Story," a movie about the life and times of his alter-ego Tony Clifton, was scrapped by the movie studios.

Too bad this flopped badly only 3 years before he died.

that was Zmuda's assertion. The studio didn't trust Andy as a performer to show up on time and behave himself -- this film was a test of that -- but as a film to test his box office appeal, t was NOT a fair test, since the studio sabotaged the film and it was not evocative of Andy's usual work. It is Andy's own fault that other film was not made -- he could have made an independent film, financed by all the people who admired him. sex lies and videotape was an independent film. Stop whining Zmuda
