Dvd Commentary by Oliver Stone

Spoilers Ahead

The Warner dvd features commentary by Oliver Stone who at first sounded reticent because he considers this film a failure but he gradually warmed up to the subject. He said THE HAND died at the box office and Orion Pictures didn't want to speak to him for a few years after that. But even a failure can be a learning experience. He explains how Carlo Rambaldi designed and built the severed hands used in the film. Stone wasn't 100% happy with the lighting. His cameo appearance as a derelict is mentioned and he also says the end sequence with Viveca Lindfors was added to give more of a horror movie feel. In regards to this ending he leaves it up to the viewers imagination as to whether there was a severed hand committing murders or not. Stone said that he has been offered other horror films to direct and even asked to write his own script but declined as he feels he isn't really suited to this genre.

Good horror/psychological drama. Very similar to Magic (1978).

"If Mad Max Fury Road is an 8, then I'll use 8 for OK, 9 is better, 10 is best."
