HALLOWEEN 2 (1981) - WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

After Michael Myers slashed his way through Haddonfield, the box office ate up Halloween. It was only a matter of time before a sequel got green lit, and another trip to the costume store was made. Carpenter tried to resist but was drawn back in by the offer of a decent paycheck. Here, he would create one of the most controversial elements of the Halloween mythos and the driving force of influence for the series until Halloween 2018. What ensued was a feud between writer and director, lost masks, and a showdown that ended up not being as final as they thought. Find out exactly what happened with Halloween II on this episode of WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

This episode of WTF Happened to This Horror Movie was Written by Bryan Wolford, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Lance Vlcek, Produced by Lance Vlcek, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

I wish Carpenter had had more integrity than Lucas and said no to a sequel (or proposed the anthology idea right away).

reply

But Halloween has had multiple good sequels.

reply

II is mediocre. III is interesting. The rest are awful.

reply

Oh Johnny.

How did you know my stepfather's second cousin's best friend's uncle's name?

I honestly don't get the hate for this movie. It's a perfect companion to the original.

The hospital/Clinic setting is very creepy, the characters are better than the original, the dialogue between the characters is better, Dick Warklock gives a great performance as the shape, and Donald Pleasence once again kills it.

In a world where there are some truly bad sequels out there, this isn't one of them.

Agreed, always liked this one.

I’m with you for sure. Also love the shape’s mask in this one. Since it had deteriorated some from filming of the first movie it gave it an extra creepiness to it.

I like this one too. In my opinion the biggest crime in this is Dr. Loomis pronunciation of Samhain. 😊

I've seen this but I can't remember anything about it apart from the kid with the razorblade in his mouth at the start. Weird thing is I can remember a ton of things about Halloween 3.

Most Friday the 13th kills too. I think Michael is just boring to me. A creative kill for Michael is chopping salad before he stabs with the knife of familiarity (+2 Charisma).

Maybe I need a rewatch but off the top. Lifting a nurse up with scalpel sounds like a F13th nurse rip off. Hot tub. Michael is not zombie Jason his hands would surely hurt?
