Why isn't the hospital crawling with cops?

Someone is clearly out to murder Laurie Strode and he hasn't been caught yet. They are looking all over town for him, but the most obviously placed he'd go is to the hospital to finish off Laurie.

So there being one security guard at the hospital and all the other cops out "looking" for Michael makes no sense.

reply

They were on a manhunt for Michael Myers in a different neighborhood. The alarm was turned off and the security Guard was killed before he could contact the police.

reply

That still doesn't make any sense. Why didn't they think the hospital was the first place Michael would go? There should have been a cop right outside Laurie's door.

reply

He was still on the loose. He could be at a hospital or going from house to house. They didn't know. Plus it was the late 70's early 80's. Procedures were less stringent then.

reply

They also didn't know Laurie was Michael's sister so they didn't see any reason why he'd go after her or that he even knew her name, they thought she was just a random victim at the wrong place at the right time.

reply

i think in order to make the hospital "spooky" it had to be empty.
and in order to create a slasher, the cops had to be MIA otherwise Mikey couldn't do any damage.

honestly, for me, this is the LEAST favorite Halloween flick : (

reply

I would at least have a cop standing outside Laurie's door to make sure she is safe and let her parents know what happened when they arrive to the hospital.

reply

Or people!

Hospitals are very busy, especially on Halloween.

reply

THEY WERENT IN THE SCRIPT.

reply

That's my number one flaw in this film (followed closely by 2 vehicles exploding in the rear ender that killed Ben).

reply

In real life there would be several cops there yeah.

reply

No there wouldn't be several cops there because they didn't know the sister connection yet so why would she need extra police protection if she was just a random anonymous victim and Michael was never going after her personally? You have to look at it through their point of view..... they didn't know all what was going on yet at that point in time. Also they probably thought he didn't even know her name and could locate her at the hospital..... I doubt that was the only hospital in that town.

reply

Agreed. Haddonfield is one town where they can only benefit by fully de-funding the police.

reply

He did that in Part 4. Michael killed the whole Haddonfield P.D. and then a group of fat redneck beer bellies with shotguns became the town's police force and Loomis yelled at the Sheriff, "You haven't got a police force! These men might be the only defense you've got!" It's a funny part of the movie.

Too bad we don't actually see the police station massacre. Loomis and the sheriff just return to the station to find everyone dead.
